First off Coalminer,I think the trap looks good,I have been trapping over 45 years and the first thing I can say without doubt is~This trap definately has to have some stuff done to it before its able to go into the field.Understand those "sheer" jaws withot being laminated will cut feet.So laminate them up with #9 wire and you get almost a 3/8 jaw face that makes animal comfort a very real possibility!Anytime you laminate jaws makes them a small amount heavier so you might want to consider 4 coiling em up with JC Connors Taos Lighting Springs.
I know this sounds like a lot of work ,but I assure you, after they are done,YOU will without a doubt have a great looking trap indeed. Its a good choice from what I see but it does need these modifications to be the trap you want! Why a trap Company this day and time would even consider making a "sheer jaws" is totally beyond me!! Its just bad business management to do so,and with the cost of traps anyway, whats $3.00 more dollars per trap done up right.Laminated up that trap could effectively hold a big coyote 24 hours or more.Beefing up the bottom plate might even be a consideration of mine as well, that way you have a strong heavy trap, that even the nastiest coyote will lay down with "due" to weight of trap and not fight as much.By the way I notice the levers are opened up a good bit, meaning they come up on the jaws higher!! Nice trap!! Larry Gene

I have about 4 doz Duke #3 OS that I use and like them. They are a sturdy trap with a good jaw spread; fast too. I take the sharp edges off the jaw faces, square up the pan-notch and dog, change the chain, and put in heavy duty swivels. I also run most of my traps on drags, but I am sure they would work great staked too.

IMO Its bad business for a trapper to use a trap not tuned properly I do not believe the trap company has anything to do with that responsibility as they are simply cutting costs to be able to offer a trap at a very reasonable price. If that means a trapper has to do a little work to the trap to make it perform well then IMO that's great as you are giving the trapper options to save a lot of money. If someone wants a out of the box ready to go trap then they can buy one but usually it will come at two to three times the cost of say a duke trap (More than a lot of guy's can afford). It is the trappers responsibility to make sure his traps are ready to trap in a humane manner not the trap company's. JMO
