trail cams 100% .they will teach you locations, lures, and your mistakes as long as you know the basics...i make bait stations for coon and then i set the trail cams up and watch the coon to see how many is working the bait ..if i only see 2 coon i know to pull the trap after the second one is caught just like if one picture shows six coon i set 3 traps and be gone to fresher ground in a day of two..if i see fox,cat or yotes i know i can gang set or use sets that will work on any thing like post sets, rub post and a couple of coon sets.

We trap around our deer feeders. The trail cam shows bobcats , fox, coyote, hogs, coon and deer. If you don't mind looking at a lot of pics you can get the approximate time between bobcat rounds. We normally use DP's for coon and if there is a family of 6 showing up will set approx 8 traps. Footholds and snares for everything else except hogs. Shoot them.

Are dps really worth the money?

Are dps really worth the money? Yes and No. In the right situation they are worth their wieght in gold in others a regular foothold or other trap might serve you better. If I am solely after coons DP's are great if I am after several species I leave them in the truck. DP's are not magic but they are simple fast and effective.

I sold my Dps and got 1.5 cs traps because where i trap there are no pets around to catch and i think you can catch MORE coons with a reg. trap and you can even pick up a bonus fox and u could not do that with a DP. but around houses or on farms they are worth the price...If your thinking about getting dp traps go with the new duke or lil grizz dp

the coontrapper96. DP's are a short nickname for "Dog Proofs" its a trap that was designed for catchin raccoon and not dogs. hence the name "dog proof" their are a great tool on a coon line. they are very easy to bait and set. there are several makers of the DP's out there. you will even see some guys have figured out ways to make their own out of stuff around their farm. I am not partial to any style or brand of DP (i run 3 different styles) but Duke has a good one out for a pretty good price.

lean the stake toward the 10 o clock position .set the trap just like for the grey fox .hug that stake with the trap.this set has produced a lot of cats for me going on 20 years now.take a rubber band and fasten a q-tip with lure at the top.add the sight attractor no flagging is needed this is the finished set.

Scouting helps a lot. You think theres coon in an area and thats where you say your gonna set and then opening day you find out theres no critters there its gonna suck. Game cams help you know what critters your gonna catch. Its also good to have everything ready like go out ahead of time make your pockets and put your cable stakes in (if you use those) And make sure you have everything ready for opening day so you can get out set and go to the next location quick. And have all your skinning stuff ready for the catch.
