Thinking about starting to replace my duke 1.5s with some better traps a few at a time. Catch mostly coon, fox and cats with a yote every once in a while. Thinking about the MB-550-RC 2 coiled. Is there a better trap than this for what I'm looking at?

if your getting rid of 1 1/2s, i would replace them with the mb 450 not the mb 550. i run the 450 and i will hold everthing from a coon to the toughest coyote.

Personally I would keep the 1.5's as they are the best bang for the buck on a coon line.. I would get some 550's to accompany them for your canines and cats... I would never get rid of my 1.5's they have paid for themselves many times over...

I'm with Forest. And on a water line using drowners ( I us wire) short chain with a swivel for a drowner lock IMO they work great.

oh for sure. i am with you guys on this one. 1.5s are definatly a great bang for your buck and i run alot of them. all i was saying that if your looking for a higher grade trap to REPLACE what you do with 1.5s that IMO the MB450 is a better choice then the MB550. i personally run duke 1.5s for ALOT of critters. in and out of the water.

I with the concensus here, the 550's are not a very good coon trap, in my opinion. 550's are a good coyote trap though. Nothing wrong with the duke 11/2's for coon. I also do not consider the duke #2 a good coon trap unless on a drowner.

Me personally I'd rather have the 1.5's.

Id think if I was you I would have land traps and different water traps.Have your 550s and what ever else you want to use for predators. Then have your 1.5s for water traps.

I don't mean to be naggy, but did you ever consider teh sleepycreeks? They one dang tough trap (from my experience) and they are cheaper than MB's, the 1- 1 3/4 (I believe it is the exuivilent to a NO 2 duke) are half base plated, attached with rivets, then, it jumps to a NO 3 coil ( there is a NO 2 Longspring that they make) and the NO 3's are the full base plate.
