how many of you guys run big holes for your dirtholes and what do you feel the advantages are over a big hole ( 3-4") over a smaller hole? ( 2" or so) ive always just ran smaller holes but ive been hearing alot about a larger 3-4" hole i guess it has more eye appeale but wouldnt it be easier for the animal to steel the bait? or would the more eye appeale attract more non-targets such as possoms and skunks? thanks for the oppinions!

I was mainly targeting cats this winter, but I was using a dirthole that was 8-10" wide and 12-18" deep. I just used the larger hole to make it more visible to the cats. Pile up dirt at the back of the hole for more visual as well as tear up some of the ground so fresh soil is showing around the set, just scratch it up some. Worked for me. As far as K-9's go I couldn't tell ya...

nates dead on the money about cats but i have caught yotes and reds also in them. coons and greys tend to steal the bait more unless you use more guiding and a larger backing because greys are bad about working the back sided

i prefer a smaller hole. But i dont think i make my dirt hole like most do. i would have to make a drawing on how i make mine. otherwise ask me in chat later on and i will try and explain it there.

I use a set like Nates....I use it to look like a Groundhog holes.I dig them face'n each other about 4 foot apart so the wind is going over both holes.I keep the trap tight in a step down. What I do is make a shelf to set the trap on at the edge of the hole.Yotes love this set.Only draw back is the time it takes to make it.Also need good dirt to dig in.
