Scott I made a huge cage trap last year with the intentions of using it for cats. Like a moron I used 1/4" cold rolled steel and 2 x 2 spacing. Thing weighs a ton. I just strap it to the front of my wheeler though. I was tired of coons tearing apart my other traps, especially the pan. I still have some work to do to the trigger and door but it functions fine as is. It's cost a mint but an aluminum one would be the cats, um, meow.
I have heard that a golf ball in the trap will keep a coon from tearing your gear apart. Haven't tried it yet myself.

I build mine 14X14X36 with 1x2 12 1/2 Gage coonzilla proof wire!!!! I then add extra rods to the front and back of the cage and still cover the back with 1X1 12.5 Ga wire to keep them from reaching into the bait area!! Sweet set up!

I thought they had a "CAGE TRAP" section on this site. It must of been removed. They should start one again. Lots of people can only use cages due to their states laws. TROP

Great tool even if you don't "have" to use it, great to get on places (foot in the door) and for close to the houses then bucket sets further out, I plan to build about 30 more this summer! Would not want it as my only trap for sure but it adds to the options!

Here's the one I made last summer. Weighs about 250#'s....... I wasn't home to land trap last year so she hasn't been used yet. About a quarter mile of 1/4" cold rolled steel in the dang thing!

Bigtwin I made something like yours in high school. Frame is out of 1/2" rebar, it is 5' long, 2' tall and 2' wide...its big enough I can fit in it. Actually in high school when I was building it I crawled in it to weld the pan on my trigger system and the door shut behind me when I got in there, rings slid down and I was locked in LOL. Too tight to maneuver so I was stuck, luckily one of my friends walked in the shop soon after and he let me out...I built handles at each end so 2 people could carry it easy and I was afraid they would parade me up and down the halls of the school LOL. Thankfully they did not.
It is super heavy, I have to set in places I can drive to. Plop it out the tailgate and that is where she sits!

I thought of putting my kid's video game thingy in it for bait. I figure she'll have to carried on the four wheeler to my destination too Nate. Maybe used as a beaver drowner in the off season! I should make one out of aluminum round rod. That'd be slick.
