I had bought some victor 2 coil and 4 coil traps awhile ago so i could modify them to what i want in a trap. Upon setting the traps before modifing them, just to compare spring strength. I found out that the 2 coil was harder to set. So i measured the spring diameter and this is what i come up with.
vic 4x4-----.135 spring dia vic 2 coil---.160 spring dia
Is it worth buying the 4x4?

My thinking, one of the reasons the 2 coil is harder to set is the levers have a twist to them from springs just under one side.
As you compress the levers/springs the tension increases on the levers causing them to twist more, causing a little binding.
That being said, man if I was a coil spring guy, I would send mine to you to work your magic on!! Stout, stout ,stout traps you have that I got to play with a little.

I never measured my springs, or more honestly, thought about it. Interesting find. Are these new traps hanging that you measured, or ones that may have possibly been worked on?
Regardless, if you have a little time and a willingness to tinker, spring kits are available quite reasonable at F&T. I did a few and they are very stout!
