Bobcat are famous for not stepping about much, that's why my favorite set is the rub-set - it keeps their feet moving around while sniffin' & rubbin'.

mntrapper, you do understand that your location is supposed to be listed? Guess this is my "go to " set... just a cage trap...

Cages, walk throughs and a leaning rock is what has worked for me and my trapping partner. The leaning rock is: simply find a very large tree along a known travel path, the tree needs to have a V formed from roots above ground. dig a hole at the end of the V, I bait with beaver, add your favorite lure (s) and Place a flat rock on end covering the hole. Heavy rock works best. It will catch coyotes too.

Here in KS we can set snares, and that is my go to cat set. Just a blind trail set with a 1/16 7x7 snare, 8 or so inches from the bottom of the loop to the ground with a 7 inch or a little smaller loop. If I wanted to go out and catch a few cats I would set big dirtholes with feathers all over, If I wanted to catch alot of cats I would do the same but have at least 10 dozen snares set up between stops to get more numbers.

Leaning post settake a 12'' x 2'' wooden stake and drive it in a 75 degree angle (at the 10 oclock on a clock) set the trap close to the stake for cats and grey fox, for coon and coyotes move the trap back 8 inches...now put a good gland lure or cat lure at the top and smear it about two inches .....remember the more it goes to the bottom of the stake the more non target catches you will make...the canines use it for a scent post and the cats use it as a rubbing post. if you look close I use a rubber band and I pull the rubber band out slide q-tip with lure on it under it.by doing this i cut my nontarget catches back 95 % unless it rains .then it's because the lure runs down to the bottom of the stake

That leaning post set is the a fur catching machine, bill showed it to us last year and I caught Red fox, gray fox, cats, big boar coon and even some otter in that set. I added some fox urine at the base, don't know that it mattered but it was working so I didn't change it. But if it rains you will catch the crap out of skunks and grinners

fisherman if you noticed very few skunk and possum catches as long as there was no rain. the lure placement cut that down .what happens is the water makes the lure travel down the stake to ground level right at the short legged animals nose is.eather way like you said yes it's one basic set thats deadly with one trap placement for any animal.you just place the trap close to the post and get ready to skin .thats why i like that set because fur is money and i don't care what i catch .i think it's one of the easyest sets to make for beginners or for the trapper that mix traps.i love the idea of not having to change the trap placement for each animal and for the record i have even caught beaver and rats with that set after it rains near water so that set lol is in deed like you said a fur catching machine

Bill I was wondering why do you lean the post away from the trap, why not straight up and down and I have seen others even mention leaning it towards the trap.
I have an idea why you do it like that, but wanted to hear your reasoning. Thanks!
