I bought some new duke coon stretchers. When I tried to stretch a coon on them the hooks wouldn't hold in place. Is there any way to remove the slick finish on them? Not sure if they are galvanized or something else.

Just use sand paper and rough up the sides and you should be all set!

What I did was place a large round object (I used a large socket) under the bottom of the slider jaws and tapped the top of the slide jaw with a hammer. The spreads/flares out the catching part. I also sand the rails like Mark. I hope this works, let us know!
