Thinking of making some "natural" cat cubbies to put out this season. Thinking about cutting the bottom out of the logs so a trap could be placed on the ground and not having to mess with bedding on the wood part! This would make it lighter too. Also thinking about cutting a wire bait cage in the middle to allow the pre-baiting before the season and not allow the bait to be taken so easy! I could put 2 logs end to end then wire bait in the middle and cover with wire to get them to go in either end? Just thinking out loud any input would be great!!!

Lawdog good Idea. Just my 2 cents worth drill some holes in the open top side of your log for lure or some visual wool. It lasts longer and more weather resistant!!

Was thinking a guy could cut the logs right down both sides and place the 1/2s on logs to get the right height/length then leave the logs full length on each side and bait the wire cage between the 2 halves (between the log halfs)?

lot of good advise here also dill you a hole at each end and a flag at each end like home depot sales thats aprox 12 inches long on a wire , Great advise Bill1958. Lawdog. I have used alot of cubbies here in Nw MN for cats. In the past we used to prebait them but was a waste of time because we have so many mice/shrews etc, etc. The bait would be gone by the time the cat would come around to the set. And we use logs just like you have there and put them out the first day of season and we start catching catch right away I think it's something they have not seen before and we know curiosity killed the cat. we use foothold with the logs like yours as a walk through set with feathers/a piece of junk fur with a teddy bear eye attached to it,all in the hole part of the log and our lure/urine/gland lure on the front of the log in the holes we drill. And again this works for us up here maybe not for you there!!

There going on a river bottom were a high bank narrows the cover to a thin trail so its a natural funnel. I have 2 draws that break off before the trail so I will put cubbies in each draw too!
