I got some 1.5s today. They are made very well, thick jaws and base plate and good chain set up. They are very stout and I need to practice with them because I can't set them with my hands. Very quick too. What's your guys opinion on them?

Remake of the Montgomery 1.5 round jaw which is my all time favorite 1.5 coilspring.

Why are they so stout though? My dad says they are a dangerous trap. After a few catches will they be easier to set?

I think i figured out why they are so stout. Their springs are made out of #3 music wire. Is'nt that 2 sizes to big for a 1.5?

Did some more research and the catalog from where i bought them said #3 wire, and other websites say 1.5 springs.

sounds like they would be a heck of a fox/coon trap! I will look into these for the future.

Guess I sort of doubt that they use #3 springs on a 1 1/2. Maybe....
The ones I own are very strong, but I mean what's the big deal?
You get what you pay for....strong springs, nice jaws, good chain.

Do they have 2 kinds of 1.5's out??? I looked at one a guy here in town had and i didn't care for it much... I did like the chain set up on it ! But I didn't care for the pan seemed to keep the jaws from comin all the way up, seemed a guy should grind the sides of the pan down a bit. And they didn't seem to be any stronger than my dukes..
These coulda just been older ones or a differant model they said Montana and had a Mink on the pan if i remeber right.. Not tryin to bash on them at all, just what i seen in the 5 minutes i held one
