well guys, yall will prolly laugh.... but i have a idea for anchoring my water traps!
last yr i lost more coon then i held... not good. I was using 11 ga. wire.
now i was told to go to cable, but then i thought of something else that might work.
My idea is, to run about 2ft of chain, on the end of the chain attatch a "mag nail" (surveyors nail) with a J-hook and use that like a dissposible stake.
My routine way to fasten traps last yr was to find a near by drift wood, and wire a trap securely to it to act as a drag.
well instead of wireing my traps, i would drive this mag nail into the peice of drift wood eliminating wire breaking on my during colder weather and to my way of thinking it would also be quicker then both wire and cable.
what do you guys think?

Scatt, Not many sets, maybe a doz an a half at the most.
From the sounds of it, i guess i will just have to try both and see which works best. thanks for the help scott and mo mo!

I can't see why your idea wouldn't work mini. If the bridge abbutments or pillars are made of wood, you could nail to them as well. The only problem i see with a nail (and i might be thinking too extreme) is that if they are a live and working the set back and forth they might be able to pull the nail out. I would make some sets and work the trap like your a caught coon and see how the nail holds up. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you!!

thanks lyonch, the nail will not come out! the j-hook will crimp out on me before that nail will come out. I tested that lol
I will try some of each and let you's no how it worked!

well, when i trap land i usally do. staking down through the creek bottom proves to be very troublesome and time comsuming.

6ft on cable-drown stake-j-hook on the end of the trap,on one end of the cable is a dbl.farrel and a stop, the other end is a sm.loop just big enough for the j -try to keep every thing really simple on my line
