I have a bunch of dried turkey wings from this spring season that I am going to use as flags at cat sets this winter. Had them nailed out on plywood so they would dry in the extended position, and now that they are dry I am getting ready to put them away in the shed. The idea crossed my mind of treating them with lice/mite powder, would this be necessary at all? I think they would be fine without it, but it would really trip my trigger if I go to get my flags ready this fall and bugs ate the hell out of the wings!

if you treat them what kinda odor will the feathers take on from getting stored so long with the odor?...if it was me i would store them in the freezer if i was worried about bugs.....now im no bobcat man but im thinking a full turkey wing would be a bit much for flagging.....

I'd freeze them make sure you can us game animal parts as an attractor in your State! Here we have to use non-game animal parts/feathers as an attractor ie pigons, jackrabbits, chickens and fur scraps!

Walker thats a good point on the scent, but Im pretty sure cats wont care. I am going to cut the wings into thirds to use as flags as well as individual wing feathers as flags - just going to experiment with both.
Thanks Jerry, here I can use whatever I want as an attractor but I know other states are not as fortunate.

if it was me I would cut apart and leave 3 feather together, easier to store in the freezer and still big enough to be seen along way , hang it from the meat side with a big fishing swilvel ,,,,,Hope this helps

depends on the set.take a whole turkey wing in a trash mound set for cats if you cover half the wing and leave half out it works very well with extra eye appeal and in big holes as well as cubbies .your using it as a bait now remember this may be against the law in your state
but if you use regular dirt holes,or flat sets then the wing is to big and is a over kill and all you need is a few feathers at your set.again maybe against the law
now here is my two cents worth i can use exsposed bait here but how ever i can not use any type of bait hanging and if i hang a feather or whole wing i am asking for trouble with the state.
whats wroung with using a whole wing as a bait? if you leave part showing it works just like wool in your dirt holes.the way you chose to use it is to use it in the manner that protects you from breaking any laws but that is if it works and i for one knows it works as i am a cat and grey fox trapper
