What would you do? Your own you way to set your traps, its opening day and you have got a very long day ahead of you and a person pulls up and starts in on you about you trapping,he's been watching you and him and all his friends do NOT like it and he is ANGRY!! (Side Note I had This Happen)
How do you handle it? At the last I will tell how I handled my deal.Larry
PS.Food For Thought!

Well, if its opening day and I'm just heading out, how has this person been "watching" me to know that I'm a trapper?? Are they just profiling me? Have they been watching me for years...that could be "stalking"...
I'd telll him (quote from P-skinny), "go hug your rabbit"... lmao Seriously, I'd inform the person that I am in now way violating Okla. law, I plan on continueing my trapping, and he can have a nice day. No if this person is of the calmer mindset, I may chat with him as to why he doesnt like what I do and offer some intelligent rebutle, otherwise...see ya later!

Really i dont know how i would handle this since i can be on the quick side of getting angry. I guess it would depend on how he was talking to me. If he was calm about it i may talk with him and explain the different reasons for trapping. Now its a whole different can of worms if he is irate and trying to threaten me. I take no kindness to a threat.

I'd arrest him for hunter harassment and if he made any threats I take him for disorderly conduct! I'd wait until he made threats if I could its a class 1, thats a night in jail! If he put hands on me then I would do what ever it takes to control the issue!

I have a Zero tolerance for idiot's like this I would make a very short attempt to calm the situation if nothing changes call the local warden and have him come and take care of this clown before things get out of hand!

Keeping a low profile will help. Myself, I try to stay on private property. In the end if it happened to me, I would contact the authorities, and pursue appropriately with vigor.

Larry, I have all 3 C.O. numbers in my wallet and in my cell phone. I would give the guy all 3 phone numbers so he could call them right away to report me for trapping legally. You can bet you butt, if I am in cell coverage I am calling the C.O. myself and doing my best to get the plate number off the car/truck he is driving.

i carry the regulations in my truck, if he thinks i am doing something illegal, i will let him read the regs. if it seems like too much trouble, i will just move on and not bother with this spot, as he will more than likely steal your traps as soon as you leave, that is what i would do

No matter how many times I go over it in my head, I can never seem to find the right words when the time comes. I'd probably just smile and tell him to go on his way, I have work to do.

Most of my trapping on on private or out of view. I have had a guy try to run me off of public land I was hunting. I stayed calm and he kept yelling. I finelly lost my temper a bit and told him I didnt care how much money he had ne needed to go back to California. After telling me he was going to turn me in. He drove off. I then proceeded to drive back into cell range and call in a hunter harrassment complaint. I know the wardens in that area dont like the guy. If I was trapping. I would deal with him whatever way I could. Then leave without setting. And come back at a later time and set it. Let him think I left without setting.

I have been harassed a few times some by antis and also more frequently by hounds men. The key is to remain calm and not make things worse. You all need to remember mast antis wouldn't have the backbone for a face to face run in so you are dealing with a whole other critter here. If they are bold enough to confront you it should not be taken lightly. If they call you out many times they are looking for trouble and a bad attitude will just lead to bad things. Young folks need to know in these situation stay calm get any info you can plate numbers, vehicle color and type and so on. Don't be foolish and try and argue and escalate the situation in such a spot.

Ultimately, these situations are not something we as trappers should try to handle ourselves. The most important thing is to deescalate the situation and avoid a physical confrontation. Gather as much information about the confronting party as you can. I. E. Description, clothing description, car description and license plate number. Some states allow citizens arrest in some shape or form, BUT, these state laws offer no protection to you from frivilous law suits. I would advise against a citizens arrrest. As most of us are armed, we need to be extra careful with any firearms we may have in our possession at the time of the confrontation. Keep the firearm in its holster or put it down or in the truck. You have the law on your side as long as you do not loose your head and do something stupid. I suspect these type of events will occur on public land far more often than they will on private land. Be careful, there are idiots out there.
