i don't want to push blame or anything but i was reading in F &T 2012 magazine today an seen this don't know if its a typo error or what . Locklear's Lures Blitz Coon it says , has a round house punch.it is loud,it cuts the night screams sweetnes and has a strong calling odor in the background to push the sweetness out over time. Pure sweet coon lure catch a lot of trappers, but falls short on the line where it counts. idk ?

yote
I can't comment on that lure cause I have never used it.
Now on the subject of lures....We all fall into the hype about lures..Now to be fair about lures,It might work here in this area but might be junk in your area or vice versa.
That being said..If you do try something new..Test it out a few weeks before season.I sure don't want to do a test on the line and the traps sit empty.I'm at fault for not doing more of it myself.I guess I'm in a rut and happy with my stand bys..More than a few lures found the trash can before the season even started...
This is why I have a hard time recommeding a lure to other trappers. There just to many variables in areas and habits of critters.I use a lure (no name) that is fair at best in a dirthole set.On a flat set it's a killer.Go figure that one out.I can't LOL.Not being a lure make I have no clue. What I'm thinking since it's mouse based, and real mellow It just doent put the vapors off in the hole or the dirt somehow asorbes that smell. When I use the lure now at a dirthole set it gets urine down the hole with it or used at a double dirthole....
This can be a very good subject if people chime in........This needs moved to trapping forum.....

I don't understand lure working in one area and not another at all because COYOTE gland lure is coyote gland anywhere so is fox and cat and everything. Also I have trapped three states and never seen my stuff not work in an one of those three plus they have been used in ever state in the united states except Montana,Wyoming, but I am sorta perplexed about that? Larry
I will be the first one to disagree there.Fox gland isn't fox gland.I have tried alot of them on market and there are some that out produce others 5 fold.It might not be the glands it's self but all the kickers they put in that lure....

Have to agree with ewok. I have used gland lure from one maker that worked great, and gland lure from another that did nothing for me. Used at identical sets in same locations and under same weather conditions. Just like urine - have found one coyote urine to be better than another. Got one quart of urine once that had a oiling looking film and didn't even smell like good coyote urine. Just like curiosity lures and food lures are not the same, I don't think all gland lures are. Now, if I put the best gland lure in a location where there are no coyotes- I catch a whole lot of nothing.

No way is lure and bait universal in it's ability. Temp weather time of year and on and on can effect a lure and it's appeal. the amount used and where it is placed all effect lure and bait Larry all though in a way you have a degree of truth to your opinion it is a little misleading.

Ewok, Larry. I agree with both of you. Ewok, I dont think there is a 'Majic" lure. Larry, Yes lures do work form state to state, but that being said some lures do work better in certian areas than in other areas.
Hype is Hype guys. We all try a wide range of lures. We find a certain lure that seems to work better than others in our area and we stick to it. I guess my down fall is Mink Madness from R&M Lures. It always works so I have a hard time switching to another lure.
No lure is the cats meow, we find what works for us and keep using it.
