Back in the day when I was long lining and running a pile of traps and skinning all the time I could and did buy Montgomery 1/2 square(A dozen) for $28.00 per dozen, but I bought 10 dozen straight up at a show and got them for $24.00 per dozen, bringing my total to a cool $240.oo,now the best traps on the market cost you that plus $40 and that's not including shipping.
I made my money back on the 10 dozen in less than a week and number three Montgomery's in 77 cost $48.00 per dozen,,,but fellows you younger trappers got it terrible hard now cause us older guys didn't have to spend the hard money you guys are!!! We had cheap gas, coarse wages were low but FUR was high and steel was low,and guess what,,I didn't know about modifying a trap until the late 80's.
James Montgomery my long lost gone buddy!! You were the man in your era and I told you straight up,you built a trap that TRAPPERS would buy and they did!! Rest good my ole friend, for you have made a proud trapper here!! Larry
PS,Just paying my respect to my Elders!!!!

Hind site is always 20/20.
If fur would of kepted up with inflation we would have a 27.00 avg muskrat now.Thats why I can't see why people are happy with a 8 Avg dollar muskrat. We are on the tail side of 1 good sale and trappers are happy. We are still long ways off where furs should be.IMO

8 dollar rat is better then 2 dollar Yes it is Nate...But I still hate given stuff away....8 dollar rat buys 2.5 gallons of gas now if lucky 3.49 here .80's it would buy 10 gallons of gas.A truck in the mid 70's was 1/3 the cost of a avg car.Now I can't find a nice truck for less than 500 a month.80's the min wage was 3.25 (ONE) rat doubled your wage. Now it's even......We can bash this all day.Trappers are just to content IMO.With the dollar being low.everyone is make money ecept the trapper. Why can't over seas buyers pay what it worth? thier money against the dollar still buys more?

This past weekend, I bought 3 ten foot sections of metal ridge cap for a shelter house I am building. They were $29.00 each at Sutherland Lumber Co, which is the only place I could find what I wanted. I complained, but the guy said steel was going up at the rate of 3.5% each week. Better buy what you can and need now.
