for the season to start?
Had last week off and spent it either in the hospital or out on a killing spree. Worked 17 hours yesterday and just 8 today.
Dyed, oh, a dozen traps before dinner. Have a few floats and marten boxes for 120's made. Mostly made anyway. Have a trip planned with mother for the first week on open season so that'll cut into my trapping time. Ran out of trap tags. No dry dirt. Need more coni stabilizers. Need to scout more. Need more wax and Q-tips. Have three coats of poly on all but a few stretchers from Mark. Made some weasel boxes with the kids. Oh boy, lots to do!
Ah well, maybe next summer won't fly by so dang fast!

It's always something...
Everything here has been ready to go.Even got the truck tuned, oil changed and new treads. The truck is the last thing to get done before season.
Now that said...I got a hip that keeps slipping.hurts like a SOB when that happens.K-9's I think I'll be fine,(not far from the truck)The water trapping I think is down the tubes.I don't know if I can get up and down the stream banks yet....

well i think i am on a different plan then you guys. I boiled, dyed and waxed about 85% of my traps 3 weeks ago. doing the rest next weekend. Last night i made 7.5 dozen chain stakes and started on some more. will finish up another 7.5 dozen this weekend. the rest of my traps already have chain stakes on them. all my pogo stakes are made and ready to go for the water line. Conibears and dps all got repainted this year. Lures are already made or bought. gears ready to go. lands scouted. some creek pockets already dug. trucks up and running. heck even the dog is set to go. hahaha and we dont start here till november! lol

Thought I was good to go a week ago then spent 2 days adding cables to my coon coni's and zip ties added to keep them form tangling so much and trigger adjustments! Then I noticed some buckets were not slotted for coni springs so out come the roto-zip and now I hope I'm ready! LOL

I'm about as ready as i can be. I need a lot of 3/8 rebar stabilizers yet for 220's. I will be testing law dogs method to mine this season. I hope his is faster so i can pay him to build me more LOL. All my water traps are ready to rock'n'roll! I have not scouted one bit yet, so that is something i need to jump into real quick!

Im running Law Dogs stabilizers this yr. looks like they will work the way I trap-set,punch em in and then set the trigger thats on coon runs if your running a bunch of 220s looks like the way to go-D-

Law Dog, what is your "method" always up for new tips and tricks... I took the MB coni support brackets and drilled them out and put a 3/8X12" spike through the hole then weld it. Looks to be the way to go for a quick and easy set up also if a guy wants to use the Beslisles all you need to do is wrap a piece of 9 Ga wire around the inside of the bracket prongs and it takes up the slack!

Huh. that seems pretty slick actually... i might have to try that... thanks for the tip. see.... ya learn something every day. lol Use a 25/64th drill bit it helps them to line it up easy as its just 1 "real" size bigger then the 3/8 spikes, be careful the Chinese must have a different 3/8 then we do! LOL But they do include a bent spike in every box! Must be a chinaman that his only job is to add a bent spike to every box!!

I have a few more traps to adjust.... Already looking at the map trying to plot a route that will maximize my line efficiency. Four wheeler in the shop getting repaired. Do need to get 4 better tires put on the ole trapline pickup (slicks arent good in the off road conditions..lol). I think thats about it.... I hope thats it!

Well, we bought a new house and will close on it the day before our trapping season starts. You can guess how prepared I am. I'm still trying to get some conibears ready. Changed from speed dip to paint after I found my foot holds with sticky triggers. Used gas to clean everything and I'm still not done. Used vinegar to de-rust some and ended up using muratic acid for some (faster, but treacherous) I'm now dipping some conibears in oil based primer. Will dip in flat black tomorrow. I'm going to try a couple of muskrat floats so must make a prototype and see if it floats correctly. I bought some new newspaper tubes and must get them ready with a new idea that I picked up at a demo. Ha, think I'll be ready? Not a chance, but I'll go with what I do have ready. Oh yes, I've got 60 new Duke 1 1/2 coils that I deburred and boiled. Waiting for them to rust, because my footholds are going back to dye and wax. 24 new duke #1 guard traps too. I'll have plenty to do in the spring. On top of all that, my new fur shed has no insulation or heating system that I noticed. Propane people will get rich this year. David

Thanks for making me feel better David! Of course it took someone moving to make me look prepared...
Made 20 cable loops for anchoring marten and fisher sets. The kids could thread a ferrule almost as fast as I could swage them. Until they got little wire pokes in their fingers and slowed down that is.
Waxed a few dozen traps and adjusted about half that many. Figure I'd better start picking away at it some. Still have quite a few to dye AND wax.....
I think I'll go cut a few marten boxes and get the first coat of paint on them before nailing.

That's a real good idea Mark. Wish I was using actual wood and not this cheesy OSB. Scraps I scored. Horrible stuff to nail edgewise.....
It would swell to 3/4 instead of 7/16 in the pot I'd imagine. Hmmm, maybe I'll dunk a piece anyway. Thanks Mark!
