Here is how i skin my skunks. Feel free to add thoughts, ideas and or ask questions. I would like to see the skunk king chime in and see if I am missing something.

Still to much fur you gotta live on the edge here men!!!! LOL Just remove the O-ring and the sacks. If selling to the Taxi market they want as much remaining fur as can be left to keep the natural look!!

lawdog when skinning for the taxi market i dont even make the anal cut...i do the money cut then skin everything out from there...when i get to the pods i clamp them off with hemastats and remove letting a piece of the intestine on the vent..this way they can trim as needed...thats living on the edge and i have only had 1 mishap...but i walk on egg shells until the pods are out....

I was so proud last year did over 100 without a problem then cut 2 in one night, thats what I get for being cocky!! LOL Yea I make a semi money cut then a cut at the bottom of the tail towards the o-ring and around it. Then I skin out the "tabs" to expose the pods and skin out above and below nothing extra and I end up with the pods and the O-ring all in one clump with nothing to trim but maybe a little extra fat!

1st cut the Y cut to give you room to work, this cut is made with the blade upsidedown cutting just under the skin away from the sacks and around the "O-ring". [/img]

Pull away with the "tab" that points towards the tail and then skin away and around the pods pulling a bit by that tab! The last cut in the intestine and you have pods to drain with little if any trimming needed! [/img]

If i were to remove just glands on a summer skunk, i would do it just like jerry does, but when i am putting them up all the way, that little bit of fur getting cut off doesn't hurt nothing and it is a lot faster for me. If i plan on rendering the pods i would just take a scissors and cut off what is not needed later. Also my fur shed is connected to my house and the last thing i want is my entire house smelling of skunk because i was getting cocky with the skunk essence removal. Good posts fellas and thanks for adding to this!!
